Two arrested for Monroe County robbery

Two Monroe County men were arrested shortly after a robbery at a county hotel.

Pocono Mountain Regional police said at 5:13 p.m. on Tuesday officers were conducting a surveillance on an unrelated investigation in Mount Pocono when they observed two suspicious males in the parking lot of the Comfort Inn. The two appeared to be "casing" the business. They were later identified as John Girza, 21, and Daniel Abuiso, 24, both of Cresco.A short time after, officers observed the two. Girza was seen entering the hotel as the front desk clerk exited the room. He jumped over the counter into a separately secured area where there is no public access and stole $160 in cash from a cash register. He then ran into the parking lot and got into a vehicle operated by Abuiso. Police made a vehicle stop after determining a robbery had occurred. At the stop Girza and Abuiso were placed under arrest. Girza was found to have in his possession $160 in cash. Abuiso was found to have a wax baggie of heroin in his possession.Police also learned that Abuiso is currently an employee at the inn and works as a front desk clerk. The investigation revealed that Abuiso had conspired with Girza and instructed him on how to open the cash drawer of the register without a key. Girza was currently out on bail awaiting sentencing for a burglary and related arrest. Both were charged with burglary, criminal trespass, criminal conspiracy to commit burglary, theft and receiving stolen property. Also a charge of possession of a controlled substance was filed. Both were arraigned before a district judge and committed to the county prison in Snydersville in lieu of bail.
