WHY WE'RE THANKFUL

We asked readers what they are thankful for this holiday season. Here are some replies:

I am especially thankful this year for my 10-year-old son's family doctor who did blood work at his well checkup visit in October. My son who had complaints of pain in 2014 and suffered from a proximal tibia fracture and fatigue saw 3 orthos for his condition which they diagnosed with low Vitamin D was the cause of the stress fracture. Then in 2015 my son was in the emergency room for major neck pain and was in tears which they said was a stiff neck, a few days later he complained of aches and pains all over.So he was seeing orthopedics along with other doctors, Thank God for our well check-up visit to his family doctor who decided to do blood work to check for diabetes due to my child being overweight. The day after I got the blood work done the doctor called me and told us we needed to go to Saint Christopher's in Philly immediately and told us it was possible leukemia. My son was admitted to the hospital. On Oct. 16 he was diagnosed with Chronic Leukemia and is being treated and will have to be treated by his oncologist for the rest of his life.I am thankful for the doctor, my friends and pastor who have got me through this and we will continue to take this day by day.I say thanks to God for the knowledge, the ongoing research and the medicine for cancer. Not only on Thanksgiving will I be thankful but everyday after, cancer has made me think how lucky we should be thankful everyday.Life is short and you never know when it will be your last.Ginger OutlawLehighton____I am thankful for the friends that I have in the Lansford Midrise. With their help, we will be serving Thanksgiving dinner to over 50 people.I have most of my health and family and still have eyesight and reflexes to drive the less fortunate in my car , if needed.Jackie AdamitisLansford
