Red Cross is distributing smoke detectors

The American Red Cross home fire safety campaign continues in the Poconos and across the country to reduce deaths and injuries from home fires by as much as 25 percent over the next five years.

In Carbon County, the Red Cross is partnering with the Lehighton Fire Department for this life-saving program. The Red Cross will be in Lehighton this weekend following the tragic fire on South First Street in late October that claimed the life of a 7-month-old baby.Seven times a day someone in this country dies in a fire.
