CARBON COUNTY COURT - DUI Pleas

Seven defendants in pending driving under the influence cases entered guilty pleas in Carbon County court on Tuesday.

Judge Steven R. Serfass accepted the pleas from the following:William Paul Evans Jr., 56, of Lehighton, was arrested on June 3 by state police at Lehighton along Pine Avenue in Jim Thorpe. Given a test, the result was 0.09 blood alcohol content.Sentencing was deferred so Evans could obtain a drug and alcohol evaluation.Bruce Deibert, 50, of Lehighton, was arrested on July 5 along Park Street in Weissport by state police at Lehighton. Given a test, the result showed the presence of a controlled substance.Serfass sentenced him to serve 72 hours to 6 months in jail, a fine of $1,000, a 1-year license suspension and render 25 hours of community service.He began the jail term immediately.Branden Jonathan Fuller, 21, of Mechanicsville, Virginia, was arrested on July 5 in the area of 688 Behrens Road in Penn Forest Township after being involved in a crash. His blood alcohol level was 0.13.Sentencing was deferred so Fuller could obtain a drug and alcohol evaluation.Justin Bernard Taschler, 34, of Lehighton, was arrested on March 15 along Mauch Chunk Street by Mahoning Township police. Test results showed the presence of a controlled substance.Sentencing was deferred so Taschler could apply for placement in the Intermediate Punishment Program, which is house arrest with electronic monitoring.Martin Allen Frable Jr., 68, of Lehighton, was arrested on April 17 at Second and Alum streets, Lehighton, by state police at Lehighton. Tests showed his blood alcohol level was 0.20.A first offense, he was placed on probation for six months and ordered to pay a fine of $300 and render 25 hours of community service. He was fined $25 and costs on a stop sign violation.Edward Layne Hoppel, 25, of Palmerton, was arrested on May 1 along Mahoning Street in Lehighton by state police at Lehighton. Test results showed a 0.09 blood alcohol level.Sentencing was deferred so he could obtain a drug and alcohol evaluation.Joshua W. Leslie, 23, of Lehighton, was arrested on July 7 along Jamestown Street by Mahoning Township police. Test results showed the presence of a controlled substance in his blood.Sentencing was deferred so he could obtain a drug and alcohol evaluation and apply for the IPP.Joshua Dennis Cooper, 29, of Orid, New York, was sentenced on a DUI charge he previously pleaded guilty to. He was scheduled for sentencing on Monday but it was deferred so a copy of a drug and alcohol evaluation done in New York could be provided the court.Serfass sentenced him to serve 5 days to 6 months in jail, a fine of $500, 1-year license suspension and render 25 hours of community service. On a summary offense he was fined $25 and costs.He began the jail term immediately.Each defendant sentenced must also pay court costs of about $1,000, and a $50 per month supervision fee.
