Two are sentenced in separate DUI cases

Two defendants who previously entered guilty pleas to driving under the influence of alcohol were sentenced Monday in Carbon County court by Judge Joseph J. Matika.

Deziray Cunningham, 27, of Palmerton, was sentenced to serve 72 hours to six months in jail. She was arrested on Jan. 3, 2013, along Route 248 in Franklin Township by state police at Lehighton. A test showed the presence of a controlled substance. Baggies used for heroin were found in the vehicle.Cunningham is currently serving a prison term in Lehigh County for a probation violation and is facing a criminal count in Northumberland County. The Lehigh sentence runs to Oct. 20, 2016.Matika also ordered her to pay a fine of $1,000 and suspended her license for a year. She was given credit for 83 days spent in jail on the charge and paroled. The sentence runs concurrent with the Lehigh term.Scott Michael Castone, 44, of Saylorsburg, was placed on probation for six months for a first offense. He was arrested on Sept. 27, 2014, along Forest Inn Road in Lower Towamensing Township by state police at Lehighton. A test showed the presence of a controlled substance.He was also ordered to pay a fine of $300 and render 25 hours of community service.Both defendants must also pay court costs of about $1,000 and a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation or parole.
