Parryville OKs 2016 budget with no tax increase

Parryville borough adopted its budget Monday night at the council meeting, with no increase in taxes for 2016.

Borough secretary Dana Brubaker said, "We collected pretty much all the revenue we budgeted for and we are under spending."According to Brubaker, the borough is $22,000 ahead for the bottom line numbers.Councilman Ralph Washburn had an idea on how to spend some of the surplus. "There's an issue on Chestnut, it's the one-way from Center to Main Street, there are two old and faded do not enter signs. There are no stop signs at the top of the hill," he told the council.Washburn would like fresh "do not enter" signs for the one-way along with a no right turn and no left turn sign added to the hill.Jennifer Emrey agreed with her fellow council member, "It's blind.""I'm afraid it's not the signs, Ralph, I think it's people thumbing their noses at it because there's no enforcement. They just do it," Mayor Dean Emrey said."Well, I've seen cars I didn't recognize on it before. The signs are old and faded," Washburn said. "It's going to be a serious accident up there one day."Councilwoman Cathy Hawk said she would make a call for the signs to be printed. "It's for the safety of the people," she said.
