Two charged with retail thefts in Mahoning

Mahoning Township police filed charges against two men after they stole from Walmart in separate incidents. A felony warrant has also been issued for a third man who stole from the store.

According to Mahoning Township police, at 1:27 p.m. Sunday, a retail theft was reported at Walmart in the township.Loss prevention attempted to stop Michael Rehrig, 32, of Palmerton as he left the store with electronics he had not purchased. Rehrig threw a bunch of bananas at a loss prevention worker and fled.Rehrig was stopped by state police Lehighton in the area of Forest Inn Road.As a result of the investigation police recovered $539 in merchandise, including a 40-inch TV and a vacuum cleaner.Rehrig was also involved in two thefts at the store on Saturday where three 40-inch TVs were stolen.Rehrig was arraigned on three counts of retail theft; and two counts of criminal conspiracy-retail theft. Bail was set at $8,500 cash.He was unable to post bail and was placed in Carbon County Correctional Facility.Also on Sunday, at 2:16 p.m., police received information that Ronald Lighting, 41, of Jim Thorpe, stole from Walmart. He has been charged with retail theft.Police currently have a felony retail theft warrant for Michael Rehrig's brother, Troy Rehrig, 29, of Palmerton, for a TV theft at Walmart on Sept. 27.Anyone with information regarding Troy Rehrig's whereabouts should call Mahoning Township police at 570-386-2241.
