Man arrested after retail theft

A retail theft incident at a Mahoning Township store has led to the arrest of a wanted man.

Mahoning Township Police said that at 2:28 p.m. Aug. 6, police were dispatched to a retail theft at Giant.Loss prevention reported that two people had stolen $100 in merchandise. They dropped the merchandise (lobster tails) in the parking lot and attempted to flee in a vehicle.With the assistance of Lehighton Police, the vehicle was stopped.During the investigation, police seized syringes.One of the people involved, Anthony Ritton, 24, of Palmerton, had an active warrant for his arrest from Lehigh County Sheriffs.Ritton has been charged with retail theft, a summary offense, and was placed in Carbon County Prison on the warrant.Rebecca Barnhart, 21, of Palmerton, has been charged with retail theft, a summary offense, and possession of drug paraphernalia, a misdemeanor.A preliminary hearing for Barnhart is scheduled for Nov. 18.
