NOVEMBER 5, 1979Nesquehoning Borough Council has informally approved the appointment of special officer Solomon Kahane as a full-time police officer in the community.The action, taken at a work session, was confirmed by Mayor Frank Jacobs, who is in charge of the police department. Both Jacobs and Police Chief Harold Billig strongly recommended Kahane, 23, a resident of Hauto Valley Estates who graduated from Panther Valley High School in 1975. Kahane will replace Patrolman William Dye, who resigned from the force effective Sept. 12 after having served in that capacity for the past nine months.
