Three newcomers elected to Lehighton school board

A changing of the guard is coming to Lehighton School District following Tuesday's general election.

Of the five seats expiring at the end of 2015, only two of them will be filled by incumbents.Andrew Yenser and Wayne Wentz retained their seats on the board. Newcomers Byron Arner, Marianne Dwyer and Richard Beltz will join them.Arner received the most support Tuesday with 2,427 votes, followed by Dwyer, 2,177; Wentz, 1,978; Beltz, 1,971; and Yenser, 1,958.Frank Tamburri was the odd man out with 1,788 votes.There were 470 write-in votes that will not become official until later in the week.Of the incumbents who lost their seat, Larry Stern was defeated in the primary election, while Rocky Arner and Lori Nothstein did not seek re-election to the board.According to their pre-election advertisements, Arner, Dwyer and Beltz said they will not support a new elementary center in the district and instead favor renovation of the four existing elementary schools.Wentz and Yenser meanwhile have publicly supported the consolidation project.
