Ice harvesting subject of program

The Nov. 9 meeting of the Palmerton Area Historical Society will have as its speaker Rick Smith of the Monroe County Historical Society. His subject will be "Ice Harvesting in the Poconos." The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. in the Knight's Gallery of the Palmerton Library, and is open to the public without charge or obligation.S.S. Palmer exhibit at heritage centerThe Feature Room of the Palmerton Heritage Center, 410 Delaware Ave., is currently showing photos and artifacts collected by the late Warren Siegmond relating to Stephen Squires Palmer, president of the New Jersey Zinc Company in the early 1900s, and founder of Palmerton. They are shown courtesy of Jeanine Siegmond, his widow.Many of these items have never before been on public display. The center is open various hours from Wednesday through Saturday each week.
