Pleas. Vy. offense explodes

In the 55th installment of The "Battle for the Ol' Oaken Bucket," things began in heated fashion, as the two teams fought to a 14-14 deadlock at the end of the first quarter.

That was all that the Bears needed to spark their offense and rattle off six straight scores, on their way to a 63-20 win over Pocono Mountain East. With the win, Pleasant Valley leads the series 32-23 and have won the last seven games in the "Bucket" battle. On Senior Night, it was sophomore quarterback Brandon Keyes who shone the brightest, as he led the Bears' offense with four passing scores on the evening."I was a little disappointed with the way we started the game defensively," Pleasant Valley head coach Dave Pacchioni said afterward. "We just didn't have the intensity that I thought we would. Offensively, though, we came out on nine cylinders running, throwing the football. Keyes is getting in the groove now, he understands his receivers' speed, and where to throw the football. I'm very happy with our effort offensively."The Cardinals looked to play spoiler early, moving immediately downfield for a rather easy score, as Matt Fisher moved in from the 33 to put his squad on the board. The winners retaliated with two straight scores of their own, a 62-yard spurt by Borre to get his team on the board, followed by Keyes' first passing score of the night to Brendan Kearns for the six-yard TD.East's ensuing drive resulted in a tying TD, when Tyler Horvath caught a Jacob Keane pass for a 14-all scoreboard. However, that's when the winners turned it on with three straight possessions resulting in scores, as Justin Richardson hauled in two scoring receptions (35 and 71 yards), along with a Trent Thomas one-yard push for the other, which began the rout."We've been getting better every week, in every aspect of the game, I think," Austyn Borre said. "A lot of guys are showing up, there's a lot of senior leadership out there and we're showing that we can do it all. We're throwing the ball, running it well, the line is doing a tremendous job, Trent Thomas does an amazing job. I'm proud of all of us and it's an awesome feeling."Keyes reiterated about the line and the job they've been doing, saying, "they block pretty well, so I don't really have that much pressure from their defense. That lets me stay in the pocket for more time and then it also helps with the running game because of the success with our passing game. It feels great to get the seniors a win tonight, in what could possibly be their last home game," Keyes admitted.KEYES TO SUCCESS ... The sophomore quarterback had a monster of a game on Senior Night, as he completed 9-of-14 passes for 243 yards and four TDs to spear-head the Bears' offense. Outside of his numbers, he also showed experience and poise in the pocket, allowing time for plays to develop and showing veteran experience.NOT IN THE CARDS ... The Cardinals had a difficult time getting their offense going after the completion of the first quarter, as they produced nearly half of their total offense for the game in that first frame (132 yards of their total 290).BORRE-DOM ... The senior tailback completed his fourth year playing in front of the Bears' faithful with an excellent showing, as he led his team's offensive charge (12 carries, 118 yards, two rushing scores, one touchdown receiving).
