Harvilla for sheriff

Dear Editor,

On July 14, 2014, I was privileged to attend a testimonial honoring my friend, Tony Harvilla. The United States Probation Office was honoring one of its own. I watched as Tony's wife and daughters were filled with pride as a federal judge, FBI agent and associates from his office spoke of Tony's accomplishments. One spoke of his work ethic and dedication, the next of his cooperation and help with other agencies, and another of his ability to provide necessary training while staying within the budget. The list of accolades heaped upon Tony that evening is impossible to put to paper. His family should not have been surprised. Tony received his bachelor's degree in law enforcement and corrections from Penn State and a master's degree in public administration from Marywood University. He spent 12 years in Carbon County, first with the Carbon County Sheriff's Office as the Work Release Coordinator and then as the Chief Adult Probation Officer. The next 25 years were with the United States Probation Office. The last four as the chief probation officer overseeing 57 employees and a budget of nearly $5 million. That's 37 years as a full-time law enforcement agent.Tony now wants to use his training, knowledge and experience for the residents of Carbon County as sheriff. Law enforcement is in his DNA. Before you vote, compare the candidates. Compare their educational backgrounds, their years as a full-time law enforcement agent and their years of managerial experience. There is only one choice. Tony Harvilla for sheriff.Sincerely,Joseph R. Bodnar Jr.Tresckow
