Stolen Dopey statue returns to owner

A Disney-themed statue that was stolen from outside the Mahoning Valley Nursing & Rehabilitation Center has been recovered.

Mike Mickey, president and CEO, said that the "Dopey" statue that was taken several weeks ago from its location just outside the facility at 397 Hemlock Drive in Lehighton has been returned.Mickey said he received a phone call Monday from his son, who said he found the statue on the porch outside his home, located in the 200 block of South Third Street in Lehighton."Everybody was talking about it," Mickey said."I can't believe somebody had a conscience and brought it back."Mickey said that as of this morning, the statue was still at his son's house."We have to pick it up," he said. "We'll bring it back and set it up."Mickey said the residents will be glad to see the statue returned to its rightful place."My residents were very upset," he said. "I'm thrilled for my residents."The "Dopey" statue is part of the Disney-themed Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs collection that has been situated outside the nursing and rehab center for over 20 years.The matter was reported to Mahoning Township Police, at which time Mickey said that a reward was being offered to anyone with a tip that leads to the statue's recovery.Since the statue has been returned, Mickey said the nursing and rehab center will make a donation to the Carbon County Friends of Animals in the amount of $500.
