This week at the Mauch Chunk Opera House

On Thursday The 40 Story Radio Tower presents another monthly installment at The Mauch chunk Opera House, located at 14 W. Broadway in Jim Thorpe.

The radio show is a live variety show recorded on the stage. It is then re-mastered for a podcast/broadcast of original radio theater, poetry, spoken word, comedy and more. This month features the music of special musical guests, The Weisstronauts - Instrumental Twang Surf Psych Spy Rock for the 22nd century. It is hosted by Joe Ferron Hiatt, writer and playwright, along with the addition of some of the most original thinkers and talent from northeast Pennsylvania to Philly to Brooklyn and more.FridayAlex de Grassi has been a unique voice in the world of acoustic guitar for over 30 years, and his innovative approach to composing and arranging for solo steel-string guitar has influenced a generation of players. From his first solo performances in university coffeehouses and as a street musician to his engagements at such prestigious venues as Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, and the Montreux Jazz Festival, Alex has followed his own vision and, in the process, helped to lay the foundation for contemporary fingerstyle guitar.SaturdayThe Grand Slambovians Pre-Halloween Mischief Night Show marks the return of one of the most legendary dates ever, the Halloween party that the Slambovians performed at the Opera House in 2008 and 2009.Come in costume if you like, and let your imagination go wild. Citing influences as diverse as Hank Williams, Dylan, Bowie, Incredible String Band and early Pink Floyd, Longo describes the band's music as "punk-classical-hillbilly-Floyd," and no matter how you're dressed, you're guaranteed a roller-coaster of whimsical, thought-provoking songs.Doors open for all shows at 7 p.m. Showtime is 8. The original Band's final performance, in San Francisco's Winterland Ballroom, was called The Last Waltz, and set the standard by which all farewell concerts are measured. Show starts at 8 p.m.• Nov. 13 - Tribute to Jimi Hendrix by the Craig Thatcher Band. Guitarist Craig Thatcher, along with bassist/vocalist Wayde Leonard and drummer Don Plowman, has put together an explosive tribute to Jimi Hendrix that revolves around Hendrix classics like "Purple Haze," and "All Along the Watchtower," while also doing a spectacular service to Hendrix's jams such as "Machine Gun" and "Who Knows." Show starts at 8 p.m.• Nov. 14 - The Sixties Show. The Sixties Show is a New York City-based theatrical based multimedia show and is regarded as the greatest 1960s musical tribute show. The act features former members of Billy Joel's and Elton John's band, The Boston Pops and current members of The Smithereens. Show starts at 8 p.m.
