Carbon County court - DUI

Three defendants charged with driving under the influence entered guilty pleas on Tuesday in Carbon County court.

Judge Joseph J. Matika accepted pleas from the following:Alan G. Kokinda, 43, of Summit Hill, was arrested on March 21 along Route 902 by Summit Hill police. A test showed 0.21 BAC.Matika sentenced him to serve 30 days to six months in jail, a fine of $750, 1-year license suspension, zero tolerance for drug and alcohol use, and render 25 hours of community service.He will begin the jail term on Oct. 27 at 6 p.m.Jude Makowiec, 28, of Mahanoy City, was arrested on Dec. 6, 2014, along Broad Street by Beaver Meadows police. A test showed the presence of a controlled substance.Sentencing was deferred so Makowiec could obtain a drug and alcohol evaluation.Jesse James Naimon, 28, of Kunkletown, was arrested on March 14 by state police at Fern Ridge along Route 903 in Kidder Township. A test showed 0.20 BAC.Sentencing was deferred so Naimon could obtain a D&A evaluation.Dennis R. Smale II, 44, of Palmerton, was arrested on June 5 along Blakeslee Boulevard Drive East by Mahoning Township police. A test showed 0.15 BAC.Matika sentenced him to serve five days to six months in jail, a fine of $300, 1-year license suspension, zero tolerance for D&A use, and render 25 hours of community service.He will begin the jail term on Nov. 9 at 9 a.m.Kokinda and Smale each have to pay court costs of about $1,000, and a $50 per month supervision fee while on parole.
