Colors for Education run/walk planned

At this time of year, you would expect to see the colors normally associated with fall, thanks to Mother Nature's kaleidoscope. But, for the past two years, organizers of Tamaqua's "Colors For Education Run/Walk" have been determined to bathe at least one fall day in bright pastel shades. This year is no exception.

The "Colors for Education Run/Walk" is an experience that has nothing to do with speed and everything to do with having fun. This year's event will be held Oct. 31 and is being planned as a Halloween "spooktacular," especially for the smaller/younger participants. It will be held at the Tamaqua Sports Stadium, following the district's cross-country course. Volunteers will be tossing colored powder at participants as they pass certain points along the course, determined to turn people into human canvases. The colored powder is natural and safe, made of cornstarch, which easily washes off skin and out of clothing. In addition to the run/walk, which is being sponsored by the Tamaqua Blue Raider Foundation, there will be plenty of other activities. The privately established TBRF was created to assist the Tamaqua Area School District in supporting projects that are outside the school district's operational budget, helping students achieve their maximum potential. In previous years, organizers encouraged wearing white shirts to get the best color display. This year, runners and walkers are encouraged to wear black or dark shirts as the powder will be neon colored.Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. and the run/walk will begin at 10 a.m. Preregistration is available through the foundations's Facebook page at

By the time participants complete the Colors For Education Run/Walk, they are covered with layers of pastel shaded powder. This year's event will be held Halloween morning at the Tamaqua Sports Stadium. The annual event is sponsored by the Tamaqua Blue Raider Foundation. FILE PHOTO
