Hall's late TD lifts Northwestern

Beating Southern Lehigh isn't something that has come easily for Northwestern. In fact, the seniors hadn't beaten the Spartans at all during their career; Friday night. The Tigers traveled to meet the Spartans on their home turf and came away with a 24-21 win over Southern Lehigh.

The two teams traded blows throughout the night, but the big play for Northwestern (5-2) came on a 38-yard pass from Dylan Snyder to Trevor Cunningham. The ball was under-thrown, but Cunningham noticed quickly enough and came back toward the ball to prevent Nathan Derby of Southern Lehigh (5-2) from making an interception. Derby actually got a hand on the ball and tipped it, but Cunningham had the ball fall right into his hands and held on to put the Tigers on the Spartans 21-yard line with under two-minutes left in the game. Three plays later, Harry Hall scampered six yards for the go-ahead touchdown and Brandon Miller added the extra point to put the Tigers up 24-21."I was just thinking about making a play so he couldn't intercept it," admitted Cunningham. "I got a little lucky when he tipped it and it fell right into my hands."The final drive started in a rather underwhelming way, with Snyder throwing incomplete on the first three plays of the drive, which started at the Northwestern 28-yard line with just 2:05 left to play. On fourth-and-ten, Snyder hit Cunningham for a first down, just before launching the 38-yard strike. Harry Hall then ran three straight times for the score.Snyder threw for 193 yards and completed 11 of 25 pass attempts in the game. Cunningham, who caught six passes for 127 yards, was his favorite target. On the ground, it was another big night for Harry Hall, who rushed for 151 yards, putting him over the 1,000 yard mark for the third straight season."I'm extremely proud of Dylan [Snyder] for how far he's come," said Cunningham. "He hasn't played quarterback for his entire varsity career, and for him to step in and come through like this has been big."In addition to his big night receiving, Cunningham also had two interceptions in the game and Teagen Golden added a third against Southern Lehigh quarterback Blake Levengood. Snyder was intercepted twice, once in the end zone by Levengood.Another week, another record...Harry Hall rushed for three touchdowns, making him Northwestern's all-time leader with 52 career touchdowns, breaking the previous mark of 51 set by Brett Snyder.Better and Better...The 25 passes and 193 yards passing were both career-highs for Dylan Snyder, who took over as quarterback this season. Coach Snyder believes that his senior QB wouldn't have had the confidence to lead Northwestern on their winning drive late in the game earlier in the season, but he's progressed to the point where he has total confidence in himself and his teammates in key spots of the game.Kick it good... Brandon Miller attempted a 45-yard field goal in the second quarter and missed, but he booted a 21-yarder with just under 4:00 to play in the game that put the Tigers up 17-14 at the time.
