Hikes planned at Schuylkill parks

Two hikes have been planned for Locust Lake and Tuscarora state parks in Schuylkill County.On Monday, Oct. 19 at 10 a.m. a hike will be held to explore the mountain behind Locust Lake State Park and visit the Silver Creek Fire Tower and Reservoir. The hike is 10 miles in length and difficult. The pine stands and brush are perfect habitat for birds and other wildlife.Participants will meet in the visitor parking lot of Locust Lake located before the contact station. Bring a lunch and dogs are permitted. All pets must be leashed and get along with people and other pets. Shine only.The second hike is scheduled for Oct. 21 at 10:30 a.m. on the Crow, Lake View and new Roc Loop trails. The hike is seven miles in length and moderate to difficult. The trails cross over two creeks and runs parallel to the lake. Participants will have a spectacular view from the dam and explore the state game lands near the spillway pond.Participants will meet at the Crow Trail parking lot off Tuscarora Mountain Road.
