Fleeing vehicle crashes head-on into another injuring 3 women

A car that was fleeing police in Schuylkill County crashed head-on into another vehicle, injuring the three elderly women inside.

State police at Frackville said the incident began in Mahanoy City about 1:10 a.m. on Sunday and ended up along Brockton Mountain Road in Ryan Township at 1:25 a.m.Troopers said Kevin L. Moore Jr., 33, of Pottsville, was operating a 2006 Chevrolet Equinox when he crashed into a 2005 Chevrolet Equinox operated by Charlotte A. Shields, 69, of Saint Clair.According to troopers the chase began in Mahanoy City when borough police attempted to stop Moore. The vehicle pursuit left Mahanoy City and continued onto the Burma Road. The chase then turned onto Brockton Mountain Road with Moore going eastbound. At this point Moore pulled away from the pursuing Mahanoy City police which lost site of the vehicle. The pursuing officer then noticed a "flash" ahead of him. The officer then came upon the head-on collision involving the westbound vehicle driven by Shields. Troopers said Moore's speeding vehicle crossed the center line and collided into Shields' vehicle. Upon impact the Shields' vehicle overturned and came to rest in the eastbound lane.Upon impact Moore got out of his vehicle and fled the scene on foot. He was apprehended a few hours later and taken into custody.Shields and her front seat passenger, Diane E. Haney, 65, of Saint Clair, and a passenger with Moore, William T. Lipshaw, 33, of Mahanoy City, were taken to the Schuylkill Medical Center-S. Jackson St., Pottsville, for treatment of moderate injuries. A backseat passenger with Shields, Anna M. Vockie, 90, of Saint Clair, was seriously injured and flown from the scene to the Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest. Both vehicles were severely damaged in the crash. Troopers said the investigation is continuing.Mahanoy City police said they attempted to stop Moore after they observed what they believed to be a drug transaction in the area of South Catawissa and West Spruce streets.
