Penn Forest OKs motion to intervene in PennEast pipeline

Brendon Lee of Concerned Citizens Against the Pipeline addressed the Penn Forest supervisors at Monday evening's meeting regarding the recent application made by PennEast to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.

"PennEast has filed its application before FERC," Lee said. "Now that the application is filed we are learning more about the project. For one thing they will be using a Class 1 pipe in Pennsylvania because we have less strict regulations than in New Jersey. In New Jersey they will be using Class 4 pipe which is much thicker than Class 1."Lee also pointed out that with the application now being docketed, people who have an interest in the project only have a limited amount of time to go online and register as an intervener in the project. Once registered, interveners will receive copies of all of the important information filed in the matter. Those interested in registering need to go online to the FERC website and search for Docket No. CO15-558 before Oct. 29.On its way from Wilkes-Barre to Trenton, New Jersey, the 36-inch pipeline is projected to slice through Kidder, Penn Forest, Towamensing and Lower Towamensing townships in Carbon County. The 118-mile natural gas pipeline will affect about 150 property owners in Carbon County.
