Two nabbed for shoplifting

Two men accused of shoplifting were sent to jail last week after they were caught by Rush Township police and arraigned before District Judge Stephen Bayer of Tamaqua.

Both men were caught at the HT Commons Walmart in Hometown on Sept. 28.Daniel Chitswara, 32, of Hazleton, was charged with criminal conspiracy to commit theft, retail theft and possession of drug paraphernalia (a needle).According to police, Chitswara took merchandise valued at $825 from the store on Sept. 27 and returned to the store on Sept. 28 to try again.Gregory Shafer, 20, of Weatherly, took merchandise worth $556.84 on Sept. 27.He also returned to the store the next day when he attempted to take another $600 in merchandise.He was charged with retail theft and possession of a controlled substance (crack cocaine) and drug paraphernalia (a pipe).Neither man was able to post bail, sending them both to the Schuylkill County prison in Pottsville.
