A fraud case in which someone without authorization accessed an Effort woman's bank account is being investigated by state police at the Fern Ridge barracks.

The victim is a 64-year-old woman of Effort.She reported to police at 9 a.m. Sept. 5 that she received a fraud alert email from the National Penn Bank, Brodheadsville, advising her an unknown actor claiming to be from Microsoft Computer Support made three unauthorized transactions from her account totaling $2,337.
