Road, bridge concerns

Dear Editor,At the most recent Nesquehoning Council meeting, Mr. Harry Miller who resides on Stock Street (Route 54) in Hauto presented to council two issues.Issue 1: The heavy truck traffic on Route 54 and 2, the ongoing movement of the Tippets Road bridge. Though I understand the grief the continuous passing of triaxle trucks causes everyone living in the village, I am away from that, so it is no concern of mine.Issue 2 is a concern of mine and everyone living along Panther Creek. Mr. Miller is right, The 6-ton limit Tippets Road bridge is moving. It’s sinking. I live at Tippets and I own the property that the north end of the bridge is attached to. This bridge carries the sanitary sewer main that serves Lake Hauto. When this pipe breaks, raw sewage will flow directly into Panther Creek.Though the bridge has a 6-ton weight restriction, it is not enforced because It is not practical to have a police officer sitting at Tippets watching a bridge that leads to private property. I think the only way to deal with this problem is a ton of signs at Route 54 and rely on the truck drivers’ sense of responsibility.Joseph E ToutTippets
