Streaks were meant to be broken.

Blue Mountain (3-0) and Lehighton (3-0) couldn't be more mere images of one another. Not surprisingly, both are riding into the most critical game of the 2015 AFL schedule to date on some serious winning streaks.Dating back to last season, Blue Mountain has won 10 consecutive games. In fact, the Eagles' last loss was at home against Lehighton one year ago. Blue Mountain head coach Cory Mabry has clearly already developed an impressive winning culture around his program since he took over in 2013."We take one game at a time," Mabry said. "Our goal is to get better every week, take the task at hand, and run with it. We have to like our chances of a 'W' if we plug along and play assignment responsible football. We have to stick with our game plan and limit their big weapons on offense. We're not going to stop them, but we can hope to contain them."Mabry's squad has definitely been getting better every week for quite some time now. Blue Mountain's last road loss came a long time ago, at Fleetwood in 2013."I think last year both of our teams took similar paths," explained Lehighton head coach Tom McCarroll. "Both of us had early season setbacks but responded really well. "That being said, the momentum that both of us finished with (last year) have carried us into this season."Just like its week three foe, Lehighton hasn't lost a regular season game in one full calendar year. Governor Mifflin was the last team to beat the Tribe in a non-league affair last September. The Indians have ripped off eight regular season contests in row dating back to last year-scoring over 40 points in six of their wins during the sequence."It appears that both of us are playing with more confidence than we were at this point last year," said the Lehighton coach. "Last year's game was tightly contested and we were fortunate to come away with the win. Our kids being able to compete and answer the bell in a close game might be the biggest takeaway from last year."Statistically and recently historically speaking, these two teams are similar on paper. How about on the field? Both teams:• Pride in themselves on physical play in the trenches- Have a diverse quarterback that can air it out, as well as run- Lost some key offensive pieces due to graduation, but reloaded with great talent- Have game-changing tailbacks- Could remain undefeated with a win, and become one step closer to the AFL crownMabry said, "I think we have some physical kids that bring their game to the table every week. Offensively, we play smash mouth type of football. We have a group of running backs that we like to use. (Lucas) Forbes has been getting the ball a little more over the past few weeks and has had two great games in a row. He's our captain and a great leader. He's 5-5 180 pounds, but plays with a huge heart. He's a hard kid to bring down and works his tail off."Last week, Forbes compiled 173 yards on the ground against Pottsville, as he utilized his speed behind his physical offensive line. However, Lehighton has a bruiser in its backfield in Wyatt Clements, who barreled through North Schuylkill's stout front-seven for 109 yards last week."They (Blue Mountain) are really physical up front," said McCarroll. Defensively, they are big on the line with very active linebackers. We will have our hands full this week. Our line was somewhat of a question mark going into the off-season, but we have had kids working hard and stepping in nicely. They continue to get better each week and the ceiling for them has not been reached. They are solid right now but if it really clicks for them, our offense could really be dynamic."Both teams are on some impressive runs right now, and much will be at stake on Friday night. One team will leave Lehighton Football Stadium with its current streak over, as another will inch one step closer to the top of the AFL.McCarroll said, "Long terms goals are good to have but they are achieved only through a journey of short term victories. There are too many good teams in this league, so we will have a challenge not only this week but for most of our season."
