FALL FEST AT THE SUMMIT

Fall Fest, a festival for the whole family, will be hosted by The Summit at Blue Mountain Nursing & Rehabilitation Center from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 3, in the parking lot at The Summit, 211 N. 12th St., Lehighton. Admission is free.

A flea market will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. There is a fee to reserve a 10-foot by 10-foot space, and you must bring your own table and canopy. All profit you make is yours to keep.Preregistration and prepayment are requested by Sept. 30. For more information on the flea market, or to reserve a space, call 610-377-7206.Children are invited to show off their Halloween costumes early. The Kids' Halloween Costume Contest, for ages infant up to 12 years old, will be held at 10 a.m. in the main festival tent. Judging categories include Prettiest, Scariest, Funniest and Most Original.Everyone who registers receives a prize. The deadline to participate is Sept. 30. Call 610-377-7206 for a registration form.The public is invited to participate in the Best Chili Cook-off Contest. Judging will be from noon to 1 p.m. Trophies will be awarded for first and second places. There is no cost to compete and anyone can enter.Participants should make at least one gallon of chili and bring it in an electric slow cooker. If you prefer to just eat the chili, a $5 donation will buy you a sample of each chili entered in the contest.For more information on the Cook-off, call Jed McFarland at 610-377-7212.The Rehrig Brothers will perform from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and Lenny & The Loafers from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m.Homemade food, baked goods and beverages will be for sale. The LVHN Medevac medical helicopter will be landing at 11 a.m. and will be on scene until 1 p.m., weather and schedule permitting. Also meet Epi, the LVHN Medevac mascot.Race and classic cars will be on display and other activities offered throughout the day include a basket raffle and cake raffle. There will be a variety of children's activities, including Coconut Crusher demonstrations, pumpkin painting, pony rides, hay ball bowling and more.A raffle drawing for a bicycle and helmet, open to children up to 10 years of age, will be held at 4:45 p.m. You must be present to win.The festival and all activities will be held rain or shine! Festival tents will keep you sheltered in the event of inclement weather.All proceeds will benefit The Summit.
