Panther Valley school, youth field vandalized

Panther Valley Middle School and an adjacent youth soccer field just off Route 209 between Nesquehoning and Lansford were vandalized over the weekend.

Members of the Panther Valley Youth Soccer Association arrived to the field, located just up the hill from the school, on Saturday morning to find garbage cans and portable toilets toppled over.According to Jim Miller, vice president of the association, vandals also tried to use a bench to break through the door of a shed used to store snacks and drinks for the athletes.Several of the middle school windows were also smashed.“We had a past break in around a year ago and we lost everything out of our small shed,” Miller said. “Thankfully this time we didn’t lose anything. After the last break in, we bought a larger, $3,500 shed with donations and fundraiser money. It worked and they weren’t able to get in this time.”Summit Hill police are investigating the incident. The school has reportedly been the target of vandalism on several recent occasions.“It’s a shame,” Miller said. “We had to raise money for a larger shed and now we’re starting a fund drive to purchase a camera. It’s what we have to do if this keeps up.”Check back for updates as we get them.
