May peace prevail on Earth!

Those who would like to gather for a moment of silence for world peace can celebrate the International Day of Peace in Tamaqua. The dedication of the International Peace Pole project will take place at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the North Railroad Street parking lot, 24 N. Railroad St.Boy Scout Troop 777 of Tamaqua will dedicate the pole, positioned in the parking lot along Route 309 in front of the Tamaqua Train Station. The project was done by Bradley R. McAloose, Eagle Scout candidate, who will lead the Boy Scouts from Troop 777 in the final raising of the pole and dedication to demonstrate his leadership abilities.Bradley has been working toward earning his Eagle Scout goal for many years.During that time, he has researched Peace Poles, and since world peace is an important issue to him, the Boy Scouts of America, the community and the world, he has decided to erect the Peace Pole and dedicate it to the community of Tamaqua.Bradley said he started the project last year around June after he researched the Peace Pole and "decided that this was the best idea for trying to send a peaceful attitude worldwide.""I believed that the citizens of Tamaqua needed this pole erected in order to remind them to keep a peaceful attitude toward others in their daily endeavors," Bradley said. "I hope that people look to this project and realize that they do not need to be violent toward one another, but rather calm and open-minded."Bradley added, "I hope that I am able to influence the younger generations into getting involved with the Boy Scouts of America."If they were to get themselves involved in this program, they will have a better chance at getting a good-paying job in the future, as well as going into the military with higher rank and pay wages," he said. "I wish for everyone to have a good life and not get caught up in heated affairs with one another, but instead be kind and friendly toward one another. Even if that means putting on a fake smile to deal with someone who is really getting on your nerves. As the saying goes, kill them with kindness."Tamaqua's Peace Pole has four languages: English, German, Italian and Gaelic. The pole will be registered with the International Peace Pole Project for the entire world to view.Peace Poles are internationally recognized symbols of the hopes and dreams of the entire human family. There are tens of thousands of Peace Poles in nearly every county in the world dedicated as monuments of peace.Peace Poles all over the world stand vigil representing peace on Earth. Each pole displays the message "May Peace Prevail on Earth" in different languages.
