Moyer propels Raiders past SV

LEESPORT - No. 34 for Tamaqua was definitely said plenty of times by the Schuylkill Valley press box announcer.

Bud Moyer ran right, Bud Moyer ran left. The senior Blue Raider ran all over the Panthers. Moyer went on to have a huge night rushing the ball, piling up 208 yards on the ground to help spark Tamaqua to a 37-14 victory over non-conference foe Schuylkill Valley.Tamaqua head coach Sam Bonner had no problem giving Moyer the ball as many times as he did."Bud's our workhourse," Bonner said. "We're going to ride the kid. He was like that for us last year. Fortunately, we were able to do that tonight. We were able to go Power-I and we were just able to chunk. He averages about six yards a carry, but they're a tough six yards. He's running six yards with guys hanging on his back."Bud's our workhorse and we are very pleased with him. It's good to see him have a big game like this with five touchdowns."Moyer was definitely hard to bring down once he had the pigskin in hand. Although there weren't too many carries broken for long yards - his longest was 14 and he did that twice. All five of his touchdowns were from within the Panthers' 10-yard line.It didn't matter to Moyer that he broke free for over 200 yards on the night, He wanted to talk about who made it possible for him."It all comes down to the line," said Moyer, about the likes of Chance Szabo, Jake Marcolla, Tyler Andrews, Matt Belzner and Tanner Hamm. "They were getting holes left and right for me. I was just hitting them. It all starts with them. They did a great job tonight."This was definitely a great comeback win after a tough loss last week. We really want to build on this and go on a good run now."While the Blue Raiders had no problem rushing the ball themselves, the Tamaqua defense made it almost close to impossible for Schuylkill Valley to get things going offensively. It wasn't until 3:24 left in the third quarter that the Panthers even recorded their initial first down. Unfortunately for the Blue Raiders, it came on a touchdown reception by Dalton Mohring. Shortly after the opposition held the Blue Raiders short of scoring again, the Panthers came right back with another score by Brock Klahold that spoil a perfect evening for Bonner and his coaching staff."The only thing I was disappointed with is that I think we had a little bit of a letdown in the third quarter when we pretty much gave up back-to-back scores," Bonner said. "When we get into big games, we can't have a letdown like that. We got to make sure we work on that this week and put a full game together."CASHING IN ... The Blue Raiders had a total of eight offensive series over the duration of the game. They scored on five of them.GETTING DEFENSIVE ... Junior linebacker Matt Weaver recorded the lone sack of the night, He also accounted for two of the Blue Raiders' eight tackles for losses on the night. The Blue Raiders defense also stopped the Panthers' running game for a no gain a total of six times.GO TO GUY ... Moyer handled the ball on almost 72-percent of the Blue Raiders' rushing attempts on the night. While seven different Blue Raiders were able to handle the ball in the victory, Moyer had an incredible 42 of Tamaqua's 58 rushing attempts. Trevor Schilling was next best with four carries.
