Careless smoking was the cause of Wednesday’s fast-moving fire that displaced seven residents, according to fire officials.

The blaze heavily damaged upper floors of a multi-unit apartment building at 210 Washington Street, also damaging an unoccupied attached house at 212 Washington.No injuries were reported, however, one firefighter was treated in an ambulance for heat exhaustion and dehydration.
