Schuylkill commissioners OK move on former Rest Haven employees

Now that the sale of Schuylkill County's nursing home has been finalized, commissioners on Wednesday authorized the terminations of 123 workers from county employment.

The new owners, Investment 360 of Lakewood, New Jersey, have hired all but about 11 of Rest Haven's 113 full-time and 130 part-time employees.It was unclear Wednesday how many of the terminated county employees were full-time and how many were part-time.The number of those who plan to retire now that the home has been sold also has yet to be determined.However, 18 employees requested to be vested into the county's retirement plan.Investment 360's purchase of Rest Haven, for $11 million, was finalized on Sept. 2.The for-profit company has changed the name of the home in Schuylkill Haven to Rosewood Health and Rehabilitation Center.Commissioners in August 2014 decided to sell the home after it became clear the county could no longer continue to subsidize it. The county infused about $2 million a year for the past two years.In other personnel moves, commissioners approved five new telecommunicators for the 911 center. They'll each be paid $12.84 an hour. They are John Cray of Pottsville; Amanda Shearstone of Begins; Elyse Amato and Angela Kane, both of Ashland; and Tanya Ebling of Palo Alto.Commissioners also accepted the retirement of clerk typist Susan Muraczewski from the Children and Youth Services agency, and the transfer of maintenance worker Skibiel to bridge crew laborer in the engineering department. He'll be paid $12.48 an hour.
