September 8, 1979 - Marv Hurley comes off the bench to help Jim Thorpe gain a 16-14 victory over Weatherly. Hurley carries 11 times for 90 yards and a touchdown to help spark the Olympian offense. The senior reserve breaks free for a 34-yard run in the third quarter to set up his four-yard tally. He adds a two-point conversion after Dan Rossino's one-yard TD in the fourth frame. Rossino adds 70 rushing yards on eight attempts. The winners, coached by Bruce Krasley, seal the victory late in the game when Jim Macalush intercepts a pass. For Weatherly, Joe Balas finishes with 126 yards rushing and a touchdown.
