Blue Mountain Health System will recognize National Cholesterol Education Month with a mini cholesterol fair and program, Five Ways to Keep Your Cholesterol In Check, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Sept. 30, in the community room and lobby at Gnaden Huetten campus, 211 N. 12th St., Lehighton.
National Cholesterol Education Month aims to increase awareness about the importance of maintaining healthy cholesterol levels, to prevent cardiovascular diseases and stroke, and to promote a daily heart-healthy diet and an active lifestyle. At 9 a.m., Know Your Numbers, an informational session, will be followed with a fasting cholesterol screening and blood pressure screening.Healthcare professionals will talk about the importance of exercising regularly, eating healthy, maintaining a healthy weight (body fat measurements will be offered) and smoking cessation.There will also be a medication brown bag table for participants to talk to a pharmacist who will help them understand more about the cholesterol medications they have been prescribed. Bring along the medications you are taking for an accurate assessment.Handouts and giveaways are included. The program is free, but please register at 610-377-7070.
