Schuylkill man charged with domestic assault

Tamaqua Police filed charges against Joseph Redner, 38, of 80 Pine Hill Road, New Ringgold, after a domestic assault on Aug. 23.

Police were dispatched to 325 Penn St. at 10:03 p.m. after someone reported hearing a woman screaming for help. As officers arrived at the residence, they were flagged down by a woman carrying a long metal pipe. The woman dropped the pipe and told officers she was the one who had been calling for help.According to the victim's statement, Redner, her boyfriend, assaulted her in her home.During the attack, Redner punched her in the head, choked her, wrestled her to the ground where he pinned her down. He then pulled her hair and twisted her arm.Redner took $20 from her wallet, along with her credit cards and cellphone.When she managed to get free, he chased her with the metal pipe, trying to hit her legs to keep her from getting to a neighbor's house for help.Once she made it outside the home, Redner fled and was last seen heading north on Green Street.Officers searched the area but were unable to find him.The victim refused medical treatment.Redner was charged with simple assault.
