New administrator named for Area Agency on Aging

Two days shy of her 26-year anniversary with Carbon County's Area Agency on Aging, Sue Zeigler has been named its administrator.

County commissioners on Thursday promoted Zeigler of New Ringgold to the $51,285-a-year job. Zeigler was hired Sept. 5, 1989, as an aging care manager and was promoted to aging care manager supervisor on Nov. 24, 2003.Efforts to reach Zeigler were unsuccessful Thursday.She replaces Cheri Santore, who was terminated from the administrator's position on Aug. 14. Commissioners have not said why Santore was let go from the job, which she held for nine years.In other personnel matters, commissioners accepted the retirements of First Deputy Clerk of Courts Theresa M. McGowan of Jim Thorpe as of Oct. 2, and First Deputy Controller Susan J. Williams of Nesquehoning as of Oct. 9.Kevin J. Binder of Jim Thorpe was named as a first deputy trainee in the controller' office, effective Sept. 8, at a salary of $34,689 a year.The county salary board, which includes the commissioners, created the position of first deputy trainee in the Clerk of Courts office at $27,955 a year.Also on Thursday, commissioners accepted the resignation of collection clerk 2/Clerk of Courts office, of Joseph J. Paluck of Nesquehoning, effective Sept. 11.They also granted a leave of absence to treasurer's office part-time fiscal assistant Sandra L. Schnell of Lehighton.Commissioners also approved the following seminar/training requests:Communications: Ashley Bartek, Joshua Jacobs, Ashley Leickel, Kodie Pituch and Matthew Derkosh to attend advanced EMD certification training in Allentown at a cost of $350 per person, plus meals and mileage if a county vehicle is unavailable.Planning and Development: David J. Bodnar Jr., Jennifer Hunsicker, and Ryan Richards for a KPMG grant monitoring tool webcast, and for Richards for uniform relocation assistance and real property acquisition training in Harrisburg at a cost of lodging, meals and mileage if a county vehicle is unavailable.Sheriff: Anthony C. Harvilla for the 2015 CJAB chair and coordinator workshop in Harrisburg at a cost of meals.Commissioners also acknowledged the following court seminars and training:Adult Probation: Tammy Wall for a regional forum on veterans courts and programming for veterans at a cost of meals.Domestic relations: Mary Kunkel for the DRAP quarterly board of directors meetingThe Salary Board established the Juvenile Court positions of temporary juvenile probation officer at $15 an hour, and changed the rate of a department clerk from $10.01 an hour to $9.72 an hour.The board also changed rates of pay in several areas:Bureau of Collections: One part-time automation clerk from $10.42 an hour to $9.26.District Attorney's office: One legal secretary from $12.52 an hour to $12.90.Public Defender's office: One full-time assistant public defender from $51,500 a year to $53,045.Sheriff's Department: One special deputy sheriff from $10.72 an hour to $11.04.Area Agency on Aging: One aging care manager supervisor from $46,117 a year to $36,426.Corrections: One part-time corrections officer from $11.26 an hour to $11.59.The board also abolished a $15.07 an hour county caseworker 2 position in Children and Youth Services and established the position of county caseworker 1 at $13.67 an hour.
