A motorcycle and a passenger car were involved in a collision in a construction zone in Schuylkill County. State police at Schuylkill Haven said the crash occurred at 6:03 a.m. Thursday along Route 61 in Deer Lake borough.

Troopers said David B. Zachar, 55, of Orwigsburg, driving a 1984 Harley Davidson, and Mukete N. Mbella, 28, of Lancaster, driving a 2014 Ford Focus, were both southbound in the construction zone. Mbella slowed down for a yellow traffic signal that turned red. Zachar failed to see Mbella slowing down and tried to avoid a collision by putting his bike on its side. The bike slid on its left side with the front tire striking the back left end of the Focus.Zachar sustained a minor injury and was taken to the Schuylkill Medical Center-South Jackson Street, Pottsville. Mbella was not injured.Troopers cited Zachar for following too closely.
