Students perform at Disney World

Students from the Pennsylvania Performing Arts Academy in Tamaqua recently did some traveling, both in miles and in years.

The students crossed more than 1,000 miles on their way to Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida, where they performed a 25-minute routine that showcased music and dance from previous decades. The performance, dubbed "Back in Time," featured Shirley Temple's "Good Ship Lollipop" from the 1930s; Frank Sinatra's "Luck Be a Lady" from the '40s; Elvis Presley's "Fever" from the '50s; the Beatles' "Yesterday" from the '60s; Donna Summer's "Last Dance" from the '70s; New Kids on the Block's "Cover Girl" from the '80s; and "Seasons of Love" from the '90s musical "Rent."In between segments, participants highlighted historical moments from each decade, showcasing the changes in music through the seasons of life.Throughout those years, and in years to come, academy director Philomena Huesgen hopes the biggest trend will be "love."Taryn Crayton serves as Huesgen's assistant director.

Amber Linkhorst, Melanie Franklin, Connor Knowlan, Caitlin Honus and Mackayla Smirga represented the Pennsylvania Performing Arts Academy during a recent performance at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida.
