Lehigh woman admits her part in Walmart theft

A Lehigh County woman admitted her part in a retail theft at a Carbon County store in a case before Carbon County Judge Joseph J. Matika this week.

Barbara Esther Herschitz, 21, of Slatington, pleaded to one count of retail theft. She was arrested by Mahoning Township police at Walmart on March 26. She was one of several co-defendants in the case. Various items were taken from the store.She told Matika she was a "follower" and that was why she was involved.Matika noted the offense was her third conviction for retail theft which elevated the offense to a felony. He warned her, "Another conviction could mean a state prison term." Matika placed her on probation for a year and ordered her to make restitution of $17.06, her share of the total taken, render 50 hours of community service, supply an DNA sample, and get a mental health evaluation.
