Carbon Young Professionals Council aims to help create stronger business network

Are you a young professional looking to build your network, create business contacts and learn from the seasoned pros?

If so, the Carbon Young Professionals Council may be the group that can help you put down roots in the area's business world. The council, which is part of the Carbon Chamber and Economic Development Corporation that was started last June, aims to connect young professionals under the age of 40 with others like them, as well as men and women who have been in the business world for years."We want to help young professionals who are just getting started or getting a hold of where they want to be and help guide and mentor them along the way," Alice Wanamaker, member relations director at CCEDC, said. "We're making the connections within this group that will last through our careers and further business here in Carbon County." The council holds quarterly mixers and networking events throughout the year to allow members to learn skills like networking etiquette, social media and more.Wanamaker urged anyone who is interested in seeing what the council has to offer to come check out a mixer or call the CCEDC office."It is important for us to feed the (business) pipeline," said Marlyn Kissner, executive director for CCEDC, "We have these great professionals in our area that we want to become our leaders someday. I see the opportunity where these young professionals can learn from our seasoned veterans (and vice versa)."We're excited," Kissner added. "We want to reach a group out there who wants to get involved and cares about their business careers."Wanamaker said for now, the best way for young professionals to learn about upcoming events is to check out the council's Facebook page at Carbon Young Professionals Council or sign up for their e-newsletters.For now, the council is looking for local designers to create the group's new logo. The logo aims to match the diversity, adventure and culture of young professionals in Carbon County.Professional and amateur graphic designers of all ages and from across the county are invited to submit logo designs by emailing Wanamaker at

alicew@carboncountychamber.org by Friday, Sept. 18.All submissions will be judged by an internal panel of judges and be approved by the board of directors. The winning design will be used as the official YPC logo and will be printed on future materials from the CCEDC Young Professionals Council.A full list of rules is available at
