Franklin buys truck, plow for crew

The Franklin Township Supervisors approved the purchase of a 2015 GMC ton pickup with an 8-foot plow Tuesday night.

A utility style body will be purchased and added at a later date.The cost of the purchase, through Costars, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania purchasing program, is $35,941. This will add to the road crew's ability to aid in plowing during the winter and other road maintainence during the nonwinter months.In other news, the Franklin Township Supervisors announced that due to the Labor Day holiday, the trash pickup scheduled for Sept. 7 is changed to Sept. 8.Board Chairman Rod Green announced an electronic recycling event will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Oct. 10.For additional information regarding any costs associated with this program and what will be accepted, contact the administrative office by calling 610-377-1773.In addition, as a reminder township secretary Brenda Neeb reminded residents, "The Township has a recycling container for used CFL bulbs. This is available during office hours and for township residents free of charge." For more information, please call the township office.A few residents voiced concerns about what has been happening with the Ahner Junkyard located on Indian Hill Road.Township Zoning Officer Carl Faust said, "It is not currently considered a junkyard, it is a landfill."The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection has ordered a cleanup."I have a call in to the representative that is handling the complaints from DEP, they are leading the investigation," Faust said.He added, "I have seen that there has been some progress in removing some items from the property, but they have also added some construction debris."
