A Carbon County driver has been cited following a two-vehicle crash that occurred at 7:27 a.m. Monday at the intersection of Arthur Gardner Parkway and South Church Street in Hazle Township, Luzerne County.

State police at Hazleton said John H. Helsel, 44, of Beaver Meadows, was driving a 2005 GMC Envoy eastbound on the parkway and failed to stop for a red traffic light. His vehicle struck a 1998 Ford Explorer operated by Heather F. Walker, 41, of McAdoo, who was proceeding through the intersection with a green light.Both drivers were injured and taken to the Lehigh Valley Hospital-Hazleton campus. Troopers cited Helsel for the red light violation. Both vehicles had to be towed from the scene.
