Governor orders flags at half-staff to honor Schweiker

HARRISBURG. (AP) - Governor Tom Wolf has ordered flags at Pennsylvania's Capitol in Harrisburg and at all commonwealth facilities to fly at half-staff in honor of former U.S. Senator Richard Schweiker.

Schweiker, who was vice presidential candidate in Ronald Reagan's unsuccessful 1976 campaign and later served as Secretary of Health and Human Services, died Friday. He was 89.

Wolf said Schweiker "served Pennsylvania with distinction and grace" in the U.S. House and U.S. Senate as well as in his position as head of the federal department.

The governor's office said state flags will fly at half-staff until interment.
