Woman charged in assault incident

A Lansford woman was sent to the Schuylkill County Prison after she assaulted a woman she thought was a rival.

Tamaqua police were dispatched to Depot Square Park at the Five Points intersection at 12:23 a.m. on Sunday for a reported assault. They found a man and a woman near the fountain. The woman was bleeding profusely from her nose. She said two women she didn't know, one blonde and the other a brunette, came out of Freddy's Pub and ran across Railroad Street toward her.The blonde tackled her to the ground and began punching her. The two strangers then ran back into the bar.Officers went to the pub where they were told that a woman named Angelina and her friend came in to the bar, out of breath. Angelina then told her friend, "You snuffed the wrong woman," before they gathered their things and left, walking north on Railroad Street.A canvas of the neighborhood found two women matching the victim's description in the 200 block of Railroad Street. They were identified as Christine Nicole King, 37, of 301 W. Kline St., Lansford, and Angelina Patton, no address given.King said she, "did nothing wrong, just pushed the girl." She explained she was walking on Railroad Street when she saw her boyfriend kissing another girl near the fountain. She walked over and gave the other woman a shove, not injuring her at all.Patton agreed with that version. However, video surveillance footage of the area matches the victim's account. It shows the victim and a male standing in Depot Square Park, talking.King and Patton leave the pub, then King runs across the street and punches the victim in the nose with a closed fist, knocking her to the ground. King then jumps on top of her and a struggle begins, with King throwing several more punches. Patton runs over and pulls King off the other woman. The victim was transported to St. Luke's Miners Hospital in Coaldale for treatment.King was released after the duty district judge declined to arraign her that morning. She was eventually arraigned, by video, at the county prison at 5:52 p.m. on Monday. She was charged with aggravated and simple assault, harassment, disorderly conduct and public drunkenness. Bail was set at $25,000 unsecured, but King was lodged in the prison on a probation department detainer.
