Seven placed in probation program

Seven first-time offenders in the criminal justice system were placed in Carbon County's Accelerated Rehabilitation Disposition probation program on Monday by President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II.

If a person successfully completes all conditions of the program their record will be wiped clean. However, if they fail complete it, or are revoked from it, then they would face trial on all pending charges. A person does not admit guilt in entering the program.All were placed for a year, unless otherwise noted.Pamela Sue Buchinsky, 45, of Lehighton, was placed on a driving under the influence charge. She was arrested on Feb. 20 by state police at Lehighton along Route 248 at Parryville. A test showed the presence of a controlled substance.She was assessed $600 for the cost of the program and her license was suspended for 60 days.Jacqueline Leigh Corey, 28, of West Chester, was placed on a charge of DUI. She was arrested on March 15 by state police at Lehighton along Route 903 in Penn Forest Township. A test showed 0.21 BAC.She was assessed $550 and her license was suspended for 60 days.Christopher Owen Hadnott, 35, of Albrightsville, was placed on a charge of possession of a controlled substance. He was arrested by state police at Fern Ridge for an incident on Oct. 20, 2014, in the area of Allamuchy Lane, Penn Forest Township.He was assessed $450 and ordered to get both a drug and alcohol and mental health evaluations and follow any recommendations for treatment.Aleshia Kapalka, 35, of Swoyersville, Luzerne County, was placed on a DUI charge. She was arrested on March 15 by state police at Lehighton along Route 903 in Penn Forest Township. Given a test, the result was 0.13 BAC.She was assessed $500 and her license was suspended for 30 days.Jarrett Dale Kessler, 28, of Bangor, Northampton County, was placed on a DUI charge. He was arrested on March 9 along Lower Smith Gap Road, in Lower Towamensing Township by state police at Lehighton. A test showed 0.11 BAC.He was assessed $450.Michael Eric Phillips, 58, of Lower Gwynedd, Montgomery County, was placed for six months on a possession of a small amount of marijuana charge. He was arrested on Nov. 30, 2014, along Maury Road, in Franklin Township, by state police at Lehighton following a traffic stop.He was assessed $450 and ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation.Amber Mae Shupp, 22, of Lehighton, was placed on a DUI charge. She was arrested on Feb. 27 along Union Street in Lehighton by state police at Lehighton. A test showed 0.20 BAC.She was assessed $550 and her license was suspended for 60 days.Each defendant must also pay court costs of about $1,000, and a $50 per month supervision fee while in the program.
