Hometown traffic stop leads to drug bust

Two local residents are facing drug-related charges following a routine traffic stop in Hometown on Monday.

According Rush Township Police Sergeant Duane Frederick, officers on patrol noticed a Volkswagen sedan commit a traffic violation as it traveled along Claremont Avenue, Route 309.

During a routine traffic stop, officers noticed suspicious material, resulting in probable cause to conduct a vehicle search.

Police said closer inspection revealed narcotics, elicit prescription medications, numerous pieces of drug paraphernalia, a substantial amount of cash, and bookkeeping documents consistent with written records that indicated sales of narcotics.

Police took Noel Abadia, 34, Coaldale, and Elizabeth A. Garrett, 53, Summit Hill, into custody.

Abadia was charged with one count of possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, which is a felony, two counts of possession of a controlled substance, a misdemeanor, and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia.

Abadia was driven to the Schuylkill County Correctional Facility where he appeared before District Court Judge Anthony J Kilker for a formal arraignment.

Garrett faces charges related to possession of drug paraphernalia, Frederick said.
