Two flown from high speed Lehigh Township crash

Two people were flown to the hospital after speeding by a police car and crashing in Lehigh Township Sunday night.

The Lehigh Township Police investigated the one-vehicle crash at 8:52 p.m. on Lehigh Drive/Route 248 and Aspen Drive.

The incident began when a Lehigh Township Police car was stopped for a red traffic light on Route 248 eastbound at 873. The police in-car video shows a silver/gray Toyota coupe traveling at a high rate of speed in the left hand lane pass by the marked police car, and driving through a red traffic signal, narrowly missing a collision with another vehicle.

Police attempted to catch up to the Toyota, but never had sight of the car until coming upon the crash in the area of the Berlinsville Hotel on Lehigh Drive.

According to Chief Scott Fogel, upon reviewing the police vehicle video, at no time was the car in sight of the officer.

Both occupants of the Toyota Solero were ejected from the vehicle and flown via PennStar to St. Luke's Hospital, Fountain Hill.

The occupants were identified as Brian Corriere, 35, of Easton and Matthew Turko, 33, of Pen Argyl.

Both occupants sustained severe injuries, but the current status of the occupants is not known. A crash reconstruction officer responded to investigate the scene.

Police are investigating speed and alcohol as contributory to the crash and ask anyone with information to contact Lehigh Township Police at 610-760-8800.
