More than 400 people stood in line in the parking lot of the Adventure Center at Blue Mountain Ski Area so that they could be a part of an attempt to break a world record and they did it.

Hunter Diehl of Kunkletown has always been fascinated with the Guinness Book of World Records. According to his mother, Donna, Hunter received a copy for Christmas at age 6 and read it cover to cover.

"We get Hunter a new copy every year for Christmas and this year he said he wanted to break a world record," said Diehl. "So we Googled it and decided we thought we could break the record for the number of people, playing Monopoly at the same place at the same time."

Donna Diehl is a ninja warrior when it comes to organization and persuasion and she proved it on Saturday when 448 people sat down to play a 30 minute game of Monopoly.

"The old record was 316," Diehl said. "We wanted to shatter it. We did it."

When the time expired on Saturday, Diehl was in tears.

"I can't thank you all enough," she said through her bull horn. "You are all going to wake up tomorrow morning world record holders."

Hunter Diehl is now 20 years old and will be listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the record holder. Diehl gave much of the credit to his mother.

"She is my best friend and she is just awesome," said Hunter Diehl.

When asked if he would pursue another record Diehl said he absolutely would, but he doesn't know what yet.

The Guinness Book company required that either its witnesses attend the event of that a specific number of witnesses, stewards, photographers, videographers and timers be present. Diehl and her friends contacted local officials, radio and TV personalities and other well-known local folks to help her out.

The Diehls had to follow a 40-page book of rules and regulations to assure that the record would stand.

In addition to breaking the record, the Diehl's decided that they would take the opportunity to raise money and awareness for AWSOM (Animal Welfare Society of Monroe). Between a 50/50, basket raffle and the sale of the games that were used to break the record, they raised over $1,500 for AWSOM.

According to Diehl AWSOM drove away with a couple of truckloads of supplies.
