Serenity at its finest

As you're reading this, I am in a place far, far away.

No, I'm not basking in the Caribbean sun, or downing martinis on a beach in the Bahamas.Nevertheless, it is a location where I'm quite comfy, and best of all, void of any restrictions.Perhaps what makes this place most enjoyable of all is that each morning that I awaken, I am free.Free to do whatever I want, whenever I want, for as long as I want, no strings attached. So, exactly which lavish destination have I chosen to hunker down at, you ask?Well, I'm actually in another state; a state of inner peace. It turns out I've found serenity within the peaceful confines of my home.I'm on a staycation, a span of time in which my wife and I are at home and participate in leisure activities within driving distance. On top of that, we're able to sleep in our own bed and get a good night's sleep so that we are refreshed each day. That means no long trips, absolutely zero lodging costs, and only minimal travel expenses.Instead, we'll be sure to take a bunch of day and evening trips to some of our favorite local attractions. That allows for a whole lot of spontaneity, rather than a strict schedule to adhere to.While that may sound extremely simplistic, that's exactly the idea.By being on a staycation, we're assured of staying on top of things and not finding ourselves getting backed up.If it rains one day and I can't mow my lawn, I still have other days I can fall back on.Or, if our plans change from day to day, I can adapt that to my usual exercise regimen. This is absolutely no knock whatsoever on a standard family vacation, which can be great in and of itself.I've been on several, and have always enjoyed myself tremendously. It can be nice to get away and travel to another state, or even country, and experience all the nuances they have to offer. But, as we all know, loading up and packing the car with our most treasured valuables is one thing. The long ride home that accompanies it, along with the inevitable unloading and unpacking, is another. After all, time off affords us an opportunity to recharge our batteries.Above all else, it also represents a welcome deviation from the norm. For us, at least on this week, home is where the heart is.
