House passes bill naming exit after fallen trooper

House lawmakers voted unanimously Thursday to pass a bill naming a highway exit in the Poconos in honor of a fallen state trooper.

The bill designates the Blooming Grove exit on Interstate 84 in Pike County for Cpl. Bryon K. Dickson II. Dickson of Dunmore was killed Sept. 12 in an ambush outside the Blooming Grove police barracks in Pike County.Another trooper, Alex T. Douglass of Olyphant, was wounded.Naming the exit is a way to remember Dickson for his contributions to the community, said Rep. Mike Peifer, R-Greene Township.Erie Matthew Frein of Canadensis faces first-degree murder and other charges for the sniper attack. The Senate approved this bill in April and will now need to vote again so it can go to Gov. Tom Wolf for signing. That's because the House changed the bill so it takes effect in 60 days rather than immediately.
