Concourse Club is 'Over the Rainbow' with gratitude

The Concourse Club of Palmerton added a line to Palmerton's history books Wednesday night with its presentation of the first-ever Movie in the Park, "The Wizard of Oz" on a giant inflatable screen.

The Movie in the Park idea originated from club President Lisa Snell Kern, who first saw similar events held in beach communities."Each president of Concourse Club conducts a project that benefits the community during her term. I saw the project as the perfect opportunity to put together an event that I've personally wanted to see in Palmerton for almost 10 years," Snell Kern said. "Due to its timeless message, 'The Wizard of Oz' was the perfect movie to kick off what we hope will be future movies in years to come."Despite a postponement from its original date due to rain, more than 400 people from Palmerton and its surrounding communities attended."The Concourse Club wishes to thank all who came out for this inaugural event to help us celebrate our 100th anniversary. We are grateful for the continued support of the community, borough, Times News, and Blue Ridge TV-13. Their assistance in putting this project together and getting the word out was instrumental in its success," Snell Kern said. The club, which meets from October through May on the first Thursday of the month, has 130 members and welcomes new ones.Visit
